We want you to succeed so here are 8 small changes to get you started.
Little and Often
Try to eat little and often, as this will help keep your blood sugar levels stable, thereby preventing craving and hunger. It will also encourage your body to burn off the food (fuel) you consume as it stops the body thinking it is entering a period of starvation.
Breakfast like a King
Having a good breakfast will kick start your metabolism after not eating during the night. Research has shown that you are less likely to overeat later in the day if you’ve had breakfast.
Drink like a fish
Drink plenty of water because it can help prevent hunger, it is essential for many of the body’s functions and it is calorie free!!
Don’t Supersize Me
Monitor your portion size at meal times. Most of us eat more than we need to so it’s a quick and easy way to reduce your calorie intake.
Eating quickly is more likely to make you overeat as your body’s response to feeling full is delayed, i.e. you won’t feel full until you’ve already eaten more than you need. Your mum was right when she said to chew your food 30 times……..
Balance the booze
Calories from alcohol cannot be stored and therefore must be used for energy as they are processed by your liver. This means the other calories in your bloodstream (plus any you consume in food form whilst drinking) will be surplus to requirements and moved into storage – as fat!
Get your 5-a-day
Aim to eat at least 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day. Fruit and vegetables give you lots of essential vitamins and minerals that are required by your body in order to function efficiently.
Make a Plan
Being organised and planning your snacks and meals can save you from ‘convenience eating’ – buying crisps/chocolate etc. because you forgot to pack a piece of fruit with your lunch
